Put your agent on a Shopify store

4 min read

You can put your agent on your Shopify storefront. A Shopify store cannot publish NetShow's ownership file, so you prove the store is yours with a short check tag in your theme's head instead. Once Verify and activate passes, you paste the chat tag. If you paste the chat tag before verification, shoppers see your agent's live face saying the door is closed instead of getting an answer.

The Shopify menu names below are Shopify's own as of September 2026 and may move. If you cannot find them, search Shopify help for “Shopify edit theme code”.

Make the agent ready to share

First, make sure the agent is public. If it is still private, follow Publish it. A private agent will not give shoppers a public conversation. Open that agent's Deploy page in NetShow, then its website embed page.

Verify your store with the check tag

Step 2 on the NetShow embed page is Add your website and verify it. Enter the store's HTTPS address under Website address and press Request this site. Use the address your browser finally shows for the storefront, for example the www address if your bare domain moves there.

Open Verify ownership and activate chat under that address. It first shows a file option, which a Shopify store cannot use. Below it, the page offers a tag to add inside the <head> of your home page, for stores on Shopify and other site builders. Copy that check tag exactly as shown; it is one meta line made for this store.

In Shopify admin, open “Online Store”, then “Themes”. Use the “...” menu beside the current theme and choose “Edit code”. Open layout/theme.liquid, paste the check tag on the line just above </head>, and select “Save”.

Back on the embed page, press Verify and activate. NetShow reads your storefront's home page at the exact address you requested and looks for the tag in its head. The home page must open directly at that address, without a redirect, and a store behind a password page cannot pass. When the check passes, the address shows as active. If it stays pending, open the storefront, view the page source, and look for the meta line before </head>.

Paste the chat tag

Step 1 on the embed page is Paste this tag into your website. Press Copy code to take the whole tag exactly as shown. It is one script element for this agent, so do not replace its address or agent slug with example text. In the same layout/theme.liquid file, paste the complete tag on the line just above </body>, and select “Save”. Open the storefront as a shopper: your agent appears on the page and answers.

A theme update or a new theme does not carry these edits over. After changing themes, paste both tags again, the check tag above </head> and the chat tag above </body>. Put your agent on your website explains the general embed flow.

Or add the live host as a theme section

You can also put your live host on every page as one theme section, set in the theme editor instead of code. Download the section file from https://app.netshow.ai/integrations/shopify/netshow-alive.liquid. In “Edit code”, under “sections”, choose “Add a new section”, name it netshow-alive, replace its contents with the file and save. Then choose “Customize”, open the footer, add the NetShow Alive host section, fill in Host (public agent name), choose its Look, Corner and Language, and save. The footer is on every page, so your host is too. It loads after your store's page, greets with a caption and carries one menu. On Shopify it answers in captions for now; for spoken replies, use the chat tag above. Use one of the two, not both.

Keep a link as a fallback

A link to the agent's own page always works, with no website setup. On the Deploy page, find Hosted Share Link. It offers a direct link to the agent's own page. Copy that link.

In Shopify admin, open “Online Store”, then “Navigation”. Add a menu item that points to the copied agent link. Give it a shopper-friendly name, such as “Talk with our agent”, and save the menu. You can also put a button in a theme section that points to the same link. Open the storefront as a visitor and follow the menu item or button to confirm it opens the agent's page.

This link opens the agent on its own NetShow page, so it needs neither tag nor verification. It is a good way to reach shoppers while you set up the tags, and it keeps working if a theme change ever drops them.

How your agent greets your visitors

Once the tag answers, your agent greets each visitor first, the way a good host says hello when the door opens: its live face is there at once, its hello shows as a caption, and it speaks in the one live voice you gave it, on the NetShow voice, at the visitor's first tap, click or key, because browsers keep sound off until then. It never plays a recorded clip or the browser's voice, it says it is an AI, and a visitor can interrupt it anytime.
