Put your agent on a Squarespace site

4 min read

Squarespace has a place for site-wide code, and that is all NetShow's website setup needs. A Squarespace site cannot publish an ownership file, so you prove the site is yours with a short check tag in its header code instead. Once Verify and activate passes, you paste the chat tag. Until then, a pasted chat tag would show your agent telling visitors the door is closed instead of replying.

The Squarespace menu names below are Squarespace's own as of September 2026 and may move. If you cannot find them, search Squarespace help for “Squarespace code injection”. Code Injection is offered only on Squarespace plans that include it.

Verify your site with the check tag

First, make sure your agent is public. If it is still private, Publish it walks you through that step. Then open your agent's Deploy page in NetShow, and from there its website embed page.

Step 2 on the embed page is Add your website and verify it. Enter the site's HTTPS address in Website address and press Request this site. The address starts as pending. Use the address your browser finally shows, such as the www address if your bare domain moves there.

Under that address, open Verify ownership and activate chat. It first shows a file option, which Squarespace cannot use. Below it, the page offers a tag to add inside the <head> of your home page, for sites on Wix, Squarespace, Shopify or Webflow. Copy that check tag exactly as shown; it is one meta line made for this site.

In Squarespace, open “Settings”, then “Advanced”, then “Code Injection”. Newer menus may put “Code Injection” under “Developer Tools”. Paste the check tag into the “Header” box and save. Squarespace places that box inside the head of every page, including your home page.

Back on the embed page, press Verify and activate. NetShow reads your home page at the exact address you requested and looks for the tag in its head. The home page must open directly at that address, without a redirect. When the check passes, the address shows as active. If it stays pending, open your published home page, view its source, and look for the meta line before </head>. Leave the check tag in the Header box after Verify.

Paste the chat tag

Step 1 on the embed page is Paste this tag into your website. Copy code copies one script tag for your agent. That page says to place it just before </body> on each page where you want your agent. In Squarespace that is the “Footer” box in the same “Code Injection” screen. Paste the whole tag there, exactly as shown, and save.

Open your published site in a browser. Your agent appears on each page and answers visitors on your verified address. To take it off later, remove the tag from the Footer box and save; on the embed page you can also withdraw the address.

Keep a link as a fallback

A link to the agent's own page always works, with no website setup. Open your agent's Deploy page in NetShow. Find the Hosted Share Link card and choose Get Share Link. Press Copy Link to copy the direct link to the agent's own page. This link opens the agent on NetShow, so it needs neither tag nor verification.

In your Squarespace editor, add a “Button” block where visitors should find your agent. Give it a short invitation, such as “Talk to” followed by your agent's name, and set its destination to the copied hosted link. Save and publish the page. Open the published page yourself, press the button, and check that it opens the agent you meant to share. If it does not, return to Deploy and copy the link again.

A text page, a code block or a redirect does not stand in for the check tag in the Header box. If the check will not pass, keep the button in place while you look at the head of your published home page.

How your agent greets your visitors

Once the tag answers, your agent greets each visitor first, the way a good host says hello when the door opens: its live face is there at once, its hello shows as a caption, and it speaks in the one live voice you gave it, on the NetShow voice, at the visitor's first tap, click or key, because browsers keep sound off until then. It never plays a recorded clip or the browser's voice, it says it is an AI, and a visitor can interrupt it anytime.
