Squarespace has a place for site-wide code, but that alone cannot finish NetShow's website setup. A Squarespace site cannot publish the ownership file NetShow asks for at /.well-known/netshow-origin.txt. Do not paste the tag on Squarespace yet. The verification step cannot pass today, so the bubble would tell visitors the door is closed instead of replying. Use a button to your agent's own page for now.
The Squarespace menu names below are Squarespace's own as of September 2026 and may move. If you cannot find them, search Squarespace help for “Squarespace code injection”.
Put a working link on your site now
First, make sure your agent is public. If it is still private, Publish it walks you through that step. Then open your agent's Deploy page in NetShow. Find the Hosted Share Link card and choose Get Share Link. Press Copy Link to copy the direct link to the agent's own page. This link opens the agent on NetShow, so it does not ask Squarespace to load the website tag or serve an ownership file.
In your Squarespace editor, add a “Button” block where visitors should find your agent. Give it a short invitation, such as “Talk to” followed by your agent's name, and set its destination to the copied hosted link. Save and publish the page. Open the published page yourself, press the button, and check that it opens the agent you meant to share. If it does not, return to Deploy and copy the link again. You can put the same button on other pages without repeating the NetShow website verification step.
Where the code would go
When NetShow's website verification can work with your site, the place for a site-wide tag in Squarespace is “Settings” → “Advanced” → “Code Injection” → “Footer”, then save. Newer menus may put “Code Injection” under “Developer Tools”. Code Injection is offered only on Squarespace plans that include it. This is where the tag would load across pages; it does not create the separate ownership file. Leave the Footer box free of the NetShow tag for now.
On NetShow's embed page, Step 1 is Paste this tag into your website. Copy code copies one script tag for your agent. That page says to place it just before </body> on each page where you want the bubble. Squarespace's Footer box is its site-wide code location, but pasting there now would only put a closed bubble in front of visitors. Keep the tag in NetShow until the ownership step has a way to succeed on your site.
Why Verify stops here
Step 2 on the embed page is Add your website and verify it. You enter the site's HTTPS address in Website address and press Request this site. The address starts as pending. Under that address, Verify ownership and activate chat displays the exact text for a file on your site at /.well-known/netshow-origin.txt. Verify and activate checks that exact file address. The file must open directly, without a redirect.
Squarespace does not let you publish that file at the required path, even if your plan includes Code Injection. A text page, a code block, a redirect, or a file at a different address does not satisfy this check. The pending address cannot become active through those substitutes. Until it is active, visitors with the tag see a bubble that says the door is closed. The hosted link avoids this site verification because it takes visitors to the agent's own NetShow page.
Keep the Squarespace button in place. If your site later gains a way to serve the exact ownership file, return to the embed page and follow the verification instructions shown there before adding the tag.
