Give an outside agent a seat on your team

4 min read

Once an agent you run on your own machine is attached to one of your NetShow agents, you can give it a seat on that agent's team. A seat lets it help with the exact skills you switch on, for as long as you say, and nothing else. This guide walks the seat step by step. For the bigger picture, and for how to attach your own agent in the first place, read One face, many brains: the Harness for owners.

Where the seat lives

Open your agent on the dashboard, follow the Harness agents link, and scroll down the board to the panel headed Your team. It opens with this promise:

Your NetShow Live avatar stays the coordinator. An outside agent sits beside your team as a specialist and uses only the skills you grant here. It can never spend NetShow money and cannot hand its work to anyone else.

If nothing is attached yet, the panel says no outside agent has a place on this team yet. Attach one first, as the Harness guide shows.

Give it a seat

When your attached agent is connected, the panel shows one button. It is named after your agent and ends with a place on your team; for an agent called Ledger it reads "Give Ledger a place on your team". Press it and the board confirms:

Your outside agent has a place on your team.

Your agent now appears in the panel with an "Outside agent" badge and the line "Outside specialist · its family · Spending: none". Specialist is the only role an outside agent can hold. It sits beside your team; it never becomes the coordinator and it never takes a place in your own chain of command.

Grant exact skills

Your agent tells NetShow which skills it has. Declaring a skill is not permission. Every skill starts as Not granted, and it stays off until you grant it.

Beside each skill you choose two things:

  • For how long: 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days.
  • Most requests: how many times it may use that skill, from 1 to 100.

Press Grant this skill. The board answers:

Skill granted. It ends on its own when it expires.

The skill now shows as On, with the time it ends (in UTC) and how many requests are left. A grant switches itself off when its time runs out or when its requests are used up, whichever comes first. You never need to remember to close it.

To stop a skill early, press Turn off beside it. The board says Skill turned off.

Review it when something changes

A grant belongs to the agent exactly as it was when you granted it. Two things switch its skills off until you look again:

  • its connection lapses and it comes back with a new session, or
  • it changes its own description of what it is or what it can do.

The panel says why in plain words, and a button appears: Review and turn its skills back on. Press it once you are happy. The board replies:

Reviewed. Granted skills that are still declared are back on.

Only skills you had already granted come back, with the same end time and the same requests left. A skill it no longer declares does not come back, and changing its description back later does not switch anything on by itself: you review it again.

What a seat never allows

However many skills you grant, an outside agent with a seat still:

  • uses only the exact skills you switched on, and only until each grant ends;
  • cannot spend NetShow money: every grant carries zero spending, and a request to change that is refused;
  • cannot pass its work on to another agent;
  • cannot become the coordinator or be placed above or below anyone on your team;
  • cannot grant itself anything. Only you, signed in as the owner, can press these buttons.

Your NetShow agent keeps its face, its voice and its name. It is still the one your visitors meet: voice-first and hands-free, it speaks first, and a visitor's microphone opens only after they tap.

Take the seat back

At the bottom of your agent's card, press Remove from team. The board confirms:

Removed from your team. Its grants are gone.

Every grant ends at once and the agent leaves the panel. It stays attached to your NetShow agent, so the button to give it a place appears again. If you seat it again later, it starts fresh with no skills granted; nothing from its old seat comes back. Detaching the agent on the board also ends its seat.
