A duty cycle is a piece of work one of your agents repeats on a schedule, like going through your newest conversations every weekday morning. This guide walks the one page where you watch those duties and switch them off and on. For a map of everything else the Harness can do, read One face, many brains.
Open the page
Sign in and go to /dashboard/duty-cycles. There is no menu item for it yet, so type the address or keep it as a bookmark. The page is headed Duty cycles and says it shows what your org's seats do on a schedule: status, spend against today's ceiling, and the last ten cycles of each duty.
If nothing is scheduled for you yet, you see No duties are armed yet. and, under it, the page says that when a seat in your org is given a recurring duty, its cycles show up here. That is where a new duty comes from. This page has no button to create one, and it has no button to run a duty by hand: it is a report with two switches on it.
Read one card
Each duty gets one card. From the top down:
- The name and status. The card's title is the duty's name, with its short key and its department under it. On the right, a badge reads Active or Paused. A paused badge also says why, for example "Paused · owner" when you paused it yourself.
- Spend today: How many credits this duty has used since the start of today, next to the most it is allowed to use in a day, with a bar that fills as it gets close. The duty cannot go past that daily ceiling. If the page cannot read the numbers, it says "ledger unreadable" rather than guessing.
- Failure streak: How many cycles in a row have failed, out of the number that pauses the duty on its own. At 0 everything is fine.
- Last window: The time slot of the most recent cycle. The card does not show when the next cycle will start; it shows when the last one was.
- Last cycle: What the duty did last time: a small badge with the outcome (such as "completed" or "failed"), the credits that cycle used, and one line of summary. A duty that has never run says "This duty has not run a cycle yet."
- Recent cycles: Press it to open a short table with Window, Outcome and Credits for each of the latest cycles.
The corner of the page shows when the page last checked in, and it refreshes that time about once a minute. The cards themselves change when you reload the page.
Pause a duty
On an active card, press Pause. The page comes back with the message "Duty paused. It will not start another cycle until you resume it." The badge turns to Paused, and the button turns to Resume.
Pausing stops new cycles. The duty will not start another one until you resume it. Its history stays: the last cycle, the spend so far today and the recent cycles are all still on the card.
Resume a duty
On a paused card, press Resume. The page comes back with "Duty resumed.", the badge reads Active again, and the duty picks up at its next scheduled time.
A duty can also pause itself. When cycles fail too many times in a row, the failure streak reaches its limit and the duty stops, so it does not keep failing and keep spending. Its badge then says "failure backpressure". You can resume it the same way, and resuming sets its failure streak back to 0, so one more failure does not pause it straight away. If it keeps failing after that, it pauses itself again.
Some pauses are not yours to lift. If the card says "Paused outside this console — resume isn't available here.", the duty was paused somewhere other than this page, and there is no Resume button for it here.
Good to know
- You only ever see your own duties. Nobody else's cards appear on your page.
- Pause is the safe move when you are unsure. It stops new work, spends nothing and keeps every record, and Resume undoes it.
- The daily ceiling is in credits and comes with the duty. This page shows it but does not change it.
