Tune a made face in the Studio Bay

5 min read

The Studio Bay is where you fine-tune a face your agent already wears. You move a dial, watch the face change, and save. What you save is what every visitor sees on your agent's public page, not a preview that disappears when you close the tab. The bay changes how the face looks. It does not change what your agent says or how it sounds: your agent still speaks first in its own NetShow voice, and a visitor's microphone opens only after they tap. For how a face is chosen in the first place, read Change how it looks.

The bay tunes three kinds of made face: ASCII, Sketchline and Moving-words. Each gets its own dials.

Open the bay

  1. Open your agent's go-live page. When your agent wears one of the three faces the bay tunes, a card called Face Studio Bay sits among the places it can go live.
  2. Press Open the Bay.

The page opens with your agent's name in the title and a small tag under it naming the face's type. The type is set when the agent is made and cannot be changed here. Beside the dials (above them on a phone) is the Live preview, which shows the face as you change it.

What you can tune

The dials depend on the face.

For an ASCII face: under The drawing you paste the art itself into the ASCII art box, or drop in a saved face file to fill the dials for you. You can set a Name on the drawing and pick a Palette from six colour sets. Under Where the living face sits on it, five sliders say where the eyes and mouth go on your drawing: Across, Eye line, Eye spread, Mouth line and Face size. They are measured against the art, so the face stays in place on any screen size.

For a Sketchline face: under The inks you pick four colours: Face, Hair & brows, Eyes and Lips. Each one has a small leave as-is button under it, so you can change one ink and keep the others as they are. The drawn shape of the face stays the same; only the colours travel.

For a Moving-words face: under The word colours you pick two colours: Emphasis, for the punch on a stressed word, and Word trail, for the words drifting away after they are spoken.

Save a new version

When the preview looks right, press Save to followed by your agent's name. A line beside the button tells you the new version number and that visitors get it now.

Every save makes a new version. The one before it is kept, never overwritten. If a value you chose is outside what the face can show, the server moves it to the nearest value it accepts, and the dials move to match. The page always shows what was really saved.

Under What a visitor gets you will find your agent's public link. Open it in a private window after saving to see exactly what a stranger sees. The Now wearing: line names the saved face your agent is wearing right now.

Go back to an earlier version

The Earlier saves list shows your most recent versions, newest first, each with its number and the time it was saved. The one visitors see today is marked live now. Before your first save the list says No saves yet., or shows only the face the agent wore when it was made.

To return to an older version, press Go back to this on its row. That version becomes the one visitors see, and the line beside the save button confirms the version you are back on. Nothing is deleted when you go back: the version you left stays in the list with its own Go back to this button, so you can return to it the same way. Version numbers are never reused.

When there is no face to tune yet

If your agent has no made face yet, the bay does not open its dials. The page says No face to tune yet. and explains that the bay tunes ASCII, Sketchline and Moving-words faces. Where the stage look is switched on, the page shows the face drawn from your agent's name instead, the one visitors meet today, with the same explanation below it.

If your agent wears a different kind of face, the page names that look and says the bay does not tune it yet. Your agent keeps the face it wears now.

Either way you get two buttons. Make a face takes you to your agent's Test Drive, where you can give it a face. The second button takes you back to your agent's own page. Once the agent wears one of the three faces, come back to the bay and its dials are waiting.
