Describe a character and get a face

4 min read

You can give your agent a face by describing it in plain words. You type who your agent is, and NetShow draws a character face from your words. The drawing follows fixed rules, so it makes no call to an outside service and costs you nothing. The same words and the same agent name always give the same face.

This is a drawn face, not a photo and not a 3D body. If you want your own photo as the face, read Give it a face from a photo or a portrait instead.

Describe it while you create your agent

  1. Open Create your agent while you are signed in. The Create an agent guide walks every step of that page.
  2. Fill in the first step and press Give it a face.
  3. On the face step, choose the Describe it tab, next to Pick a face and Generate a face.
  4. Type into the Describe your character box. The box takes up to 500 characters and shows its own example: wild-haired physicist, kind eyes, chalk dust.
  5. Wait a moment. A card appears under the box, named after the style it read from your words, for example "Physicist — your character". Tap the card to wear it, and the preview panel starts showing the face.
  6. Press Bring it alive and finish the remaining steps. The face is saved when you press Create agent.

What to type

Start with a role: a physicist, a chef, a teacher, a detective, a doctor, an artist. The role sets the overall style and the colours of the outfit. Then add features the drawing knows, such as hair and eyes. The page asks for style only, never a real person's likeness. If you name a famous person, the page says so under the card and uses a general style instead, never that person's face.

Some words have no drawn form yet, such as a beard or glasses. The page lists them under Kept in the story, not the face so you know they were read but not drawn.

Change the details in the character bay

After your agent exists, its character bay is where you fine-tune the face. Open your agent's Edit page. Its address ends in /dashboard/agents/edit/ and a number. Change that ending to /dashboard/agents/ with the same number and /character, and the bay opens.

The bay shows your character under Live preview, with the words you typed beside "Described as". Next to it are sliders for Eye size, Eye spacing, Brow softness, Brow weight, Jaw width, Cheek fullness, Mouth width, Lip fullness, Hair volume, Hair length and Warmth, and colour pickers for Hair color, Skin tone, Outfit color and Accent color. The preview changes as you move them, and the page shows Unsaved changes until you save. Each slider stays inside safe limits, so no setting can break the face. The character underneath stays the same one: you are adjusting it, not making a new one.

Save it to your agent

Press Save character. When it works, the page says Saved — the public door wears this on its next load. Your agent's public page shows the new details the next time it opens. If the save does not go through, the page says Save didn’t go through — nothing was lost. Try again., and your changes are still on the screen for another try.

If you open the bay for an agent you did not describe, it says there is no character yet and offers Go to the Face step. To return to your agent at any time, press Back to agent.

Choosing a different look

The bay changes the details of the face you described; it does not swap it for a different kind of face. To see the other ways a face can look, read Change how it looks and Choose a look for your agent’s face.

Whatever face you choose, your agent stays voice-first and hands-free. It speaks first in NetShow's own voice, a visitor's microphone opens only after the visitor taps, and typed chat sits in the small menu for people with no microphone or speaker.
