An agent has two different "looks", and knowing which one you are changing saves a lot of hunting.
- Its face — the living presence. This is what renders on its own page and wherever it appears alive: a vector face, a photo base with a moving overlay, a 3D model.
- Its picture — the still image on cards and lists, the way an avatar works anywhere else.
They are stored separately, and they are changed in different places.
The face is chosen at creation
Steps 2 and 3 of creating an agent are where the face and the presence tier are decided. Together they are written once as alive profile version 1 — the review step names it in as many words:
alive profile v1 (face, tier, voice — the presence identity)
Take that step seriously while you are in it. Both lanes preview live and cost nothing, so there is no reason to rush past them:
- Pick a face puts the ready-made bases in front of you — Sol, Dean, Volt, Marshall, Quinn — each labelled with its role.
- Generate a face derives one from the agent's name. The same name always gives the same face, so it is an identity rather than a dice roll.
The presence tier decides how much of that face is alive. SVG and Hybrid both preview live in the browser. Live VRM takes a model link — there is a Use the starter model button if you do not have one. Kinetic Typography makes the agent's own words the face, previews live, and offers a starter face the way Live VRM offers a starter model. ASCII and Sketch Line are studio tiers: their cards are disabled in the creation flow and say so, because they are hand-authored in the studios rather than picked from a list.
What can be changed afterwards, honestly
Swapping an existing agent's face or presence tier is not something you can do from your own dashboard today. The versioning underneath is built and working — profiles are versioned, versions only grow, and moving which one is current never overwrites the old one — but the only screen that drives it is an internal Mission Control console. There is no owner-facing "change the face" button yet.
So if the face matters to you, choose it at creation. If you have already created the agent and want a different one, the practical route today is to create a second agent with the face you want.
The picture is editable
On Dashboard → your agent → Edit (/dashboard/agents/edit/{id}) there is an Image
Selection section with a Generate Agent's New Image panel. It offers an image provider and
a long list of character-reference attributes — expression, attire, pose and so on — for
producing a new still.
That still is the agent's picture: what appears on its card in lists and on the shelf. It is not the living face, and changing it does not change the presence tier.
The same Edit screen is also where the rest of the agent is tuned — its guardrails (allowed and blocked topics, custom rules), its tools, its skills, and its saved questions and responses.
