Make your own avatar from a photo

5 min read

Leer en español

You can give a character your own face. You start from one of NetShow's two characters, Tia or Hugh, and the page fits its face to your photo. What you get is still a character, not a photo of you: your photo only sets the face sliders, and you can change every slider after.

Before you start: the photo rules

Read these first. They are the page's own words, and they do not change:

  • You answer one question before any photo is used: Whose face is it?
  • You tick: I am 18 or older, and I agree to this photo being used once to fit the face, then deleted.
  • The page says: The photo is used once and deleted the moment the fit is done; only your consent and the slider values are kept. Withdraw any time.

If the photo shows someone else, choose I have the right to use this photo of someone else. The page then waits: they need to give their word first, and it will not use the photo until they do. The same is true for A loved one who has passed.

Make the avatar

  1. Sign in, then open Shape your character. You find it from My Characters with Shape this character, or at the address /alive-kit/rig/bases.html.
  2. Pick Tia or Hugh in the Character menu.
  3. Go to Use my photo. Your guide on the page leads you through it out loud.
  4. Answer Whose face is it? For your own face, choose This is me.
  5. Tick the box that says you are 18 or older and agree. If the page also asks, tick This is not a public figure.
  6. Choose one clear photo, facing the camera: a JPEG, PNG or WebP picture up to 5 MB. A second side view is optional.
  7. Press Fit my face. If the picture will not work, your guide tells you why, for example that your face is turned too far or the light is too dark, and asks for a better one.
  8. When the fit is done, the face sliders move to your face, and the photo itself is already deleted. Shape anything you like with the sliders.
  9. Under Save this character, type a Character name and press Save to My Characters. It keeps the sliders, hair and colours, never the photo. It shows under Your characters, and Load puts it back on the stage another day.

Change your mind

Press Withdraw my consent at any time. Your guide says: "Done. Your consent is withdrawn and the photo line is closed." For anything else you made, see Delete your account and your data.

What it costs

Your own avatar from a photo is included with the Business and Enterprise plans and every AI employee, as the Looks included: line on Plans shows. On other plans it is coming to your plan; the face sliders still work by hand on every plan.

When a door is not open yet

If you do not see Use my photo, the photo step is not open on your account yet: it is coming to your plan. If the fit is closed for the day, your guide says so, and the face sliders still let you shape the face yourself. If you do not see Save this character, saving is coming to your plan too. Wearing a saved photo character as your agent's live look reaches accounts in steps as well; until then, your agent can wear any ready character from My Characters.

Your next step

Put the character on your agent with Pick a 3D character for your agent. To learn who owns what you make, read Who owns the characters you make.
